The Sun—just touched the Morning
Emily Dickinson
The Sunâjust touched the Morning
232
The Sunâjust touched the Morningâ
The MorningâHappy thingâ
Supposed that He had come to dwellâ
And Life would all be Spring!
She felt herself supremerâ
A RaisedâEthereal Thing!
Henceforthâfor HerâWhat Holiday!
MeanwhileâHer wheeling Kingâ
Trailedâslowâalong the Orchardsâ
His haughtyâspangled Hemsâ
Leaving a new necessity!
The want of Diadems!
The Morningâflutteredâstaggeredâ
Felt feeblyâfor Her Crownâ
Her unanointed foreheadâ
HenceforthâHer only One!
