The Sun kept setting—setting—still
Emily Dickinson
The Sun kept settingâsettingâstill
692
The Sun kept settingâsettingâstill
No Hue of Afternoonâ
Upon the Village I perceived
From House to House 'twas Noonâ
The Dusk kept droppingâdroppingâstill
No Dew upon the Grassâ
But only on my Forehead stoppedâ
And wandered in my Faceâ
My Feet kept drowsingâdrowsingâstill
My fingers were awakeâ
Yet why so little soundâMyself
Unto my Seemingâmake?
How well I knew the Light beforeâ
I could see it nowâ
'Tis DyingâI am doingâbut
I'm not afraid to knowâ
