John Adams (1735-1826) foi um estadista, advogado, escritor e um dos Pais Fundadores dos Estados Unidos. Ele serviu como o segundo presidente dos Estados Unidos de 1797 a 1801. Antes disso, foi vice-presidente sob George Washington, delegado no Congresso Continental e o principal diplomata americano na Europa durante a Revolução. Adams foi um defensor vocal da independência americana e desempenhou um papel fundamental na redação da Declaração de Independência. Sua presidência foi marcada por tensões com a França e pela controvérsia das Leis de Estrangeiros e Sediciosas. Apesar de sua importância histórica, Adams é frequentemente lembrado por sua rivalidade política com Thomas Jefferson, com quem compartilhou uma longa e complexa correspondência após deixarem o cargo.
