Xenophanes of Colophon was a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher and poet, founder of the Eleatic school and one of the first thinkers to criticize the anthropomorphism of the gods in traditional Greek religion. His ideas laid the foundations for Western metaphysics and theology.
He is known for having proposed a single, eternal, and immobile god, who rules the universe with thought, departing from Homeric mythology. His reflections also addressed the nature of knowledge and the limits of human understanding.
