Bio
Marco Fabio Quintiliano (in Latin, Marcus Fabius Quintilianus) was born in Calahorra, Hispania Citerior (modern-day Spain), around 35 AD. He was educated in Rome and became one of the most celebrated teachers of rhetoric, teaching for over twenty years. He founded the first public chair of rhetoric in Rome, sponsored by the emperor. His magnum opus, "Institutio Oratoria" (The Education of an Orator), is a detailed manual covering all aspects of oratory education and practice, from grammar and literature to argumentation and style. Quintilian advocated for a complete and morally sound education to form not only a good orator but a good citizen. His ideas on pedagogy, the importance of reading, and the need for a balanced curriculum had a lasting impact on the European educational system, especially during the Renaissance.
