Ludwig is best known for his plays, such as "Die Mitschuldigen" (The Accomplices) and "Der Wald" (The Forest), which were influential in their time for their realism and psychological depth. He also wrote the novel "Zwischen Himmel und Erde" (Between Heaven and Earth), which explores moral and emotional tensions in a community.
