Bio
Max Aub (born in Paris in 1903 and died in Mexico in 1972) was one of the most complete and multifaceted intellectuals in 20th-century Spanish literature. With a French father and a Spanish mother, he lived most of his life in Spain until the outbreak of the Civil War, after which he went into exile in Mexico, where he resided for decades. His literary work is immense and diverse, including novels, plays, short stories, poetry, essays, and art criticism. His novel cycle "The Magic Labyrinth" is one of his most ambitious creations, a fresco of the Spanish Civil War. Aub also stood out as a playwright, with works exploring the lack of communication and the fragility of human relationships. His essay "The Art of War" is a fundamental testimony about the conflict. As an art critic, he promoted modern art and the work of Spanish artists in exile. His figure is a benchmark of intellectual commitment and cultural resistance.
