Born in Bucharest, Romania, on April 10, 1914, Maria Banuș was a prominent figure in 20th-century Romanian literature. She studied philosophy and literature at the University of Bucharest. Her literary career began early, with the publication of her first book of poems in 1930. Throughout her life, she published several volumes of poetry, which earned her national and international recognition. Poems such as "The Rhinoceros's Cry" and "The Courage to Love" are examples of her ability to express deep emotions with accessible and evocative language. In addition to being a poet, Banuș was also an editor and translator. Her work is often associated with lyricism, introspection, and a deep connection with Romanian culture and landscape.
