Ludovico Ariosto (1474-1533) is widely regarded as one of the greatest Italian poets. Born in Reggio Emilia, his masterpiece, "Orlando Furioso" (first published in 1516 and later expanded), is an epic poem that continues the work of Matteo Maria Boiardo, narrating the adventures of knights, magic, and love during the time of Charlemagne.
