Pedro Calderón de la Barca was one of the pillars of Spanish Golden Age theater. He began his military career before dedicating himself fully to theatrical writing, where he achieved great fame. His dramas, both cape-and-sword plays and those of a philosophical and religious nature, are famous for their elaborate structure, rich language, and profound reflections on the human condition. 'La vida es sueño' (Life is a Dream) is his most iconic work and one of the most important dramas in universal literature. After a life dedicated to the arts, he also became ordained as a priest. Calderón passed away in 1681, leaving an immeasurable theatrical legacy.
